In my mid-twenties, in the mid-seventies, I came to the realization that I was an artist. I have immersed myself in my art since that time.
I am self-educated or, more accurately, self-educating.
Although I am primarily a painter, my art is not limited to that form. Sculpture, collage, performance art, music, poetry, acting and directing are all responses to my muse.
I authored a play, titled "Painting is a Verb, not a Noun," which fairly well sums up what I have to say about art, and life, for that matter. I believe that in all human endeavors it is the process not the product that is important. It is this belief which affords me the freedom to employ various techniques in my painting and to venture outside the arena of painting to express my artistic vision.
I hope my paintings evoke the deep love I feel for the natural world. I take as my subject matter the stone, water, flora and sky of favorite places such as my native Maine and Ireland.
I have exhibited in the Palm Beaches (Florida), Minneapolis and Galway (Ireland) as well as in various locations in Maine. My work is in private and corporate collections across the country and abroad.
I own and work in an historical building at Cass Corner, North Cornville, Maine, where I also operate an art gallery, venue for local artisan goods, and a public art space which hosts a life drawing group, evenings of poetry and music sessions.
